Explore Corps teamed up with the film crew for God Went Surfing With The Devil and Ultrawave Surfboards to produce this 2-part surfboard repair workshop video in Arabic for the surfers of Gaza.  This video is designed  to help the surfers of Gaza and the Arabic-speaking world learn the techniques of board repair from a seasoned pro.  Omar Rabus, the host of the program, is an Israeli Arab who has been the glasser and board-repair guru at Ultrawave Surfboards for over 20 years and we are extremely grateful for his participation.  Omar would also like to send best wishes to his family members who live in Gaza.

God Went Surfing With The Devil is a feature-length documentary directed and produced by Alex Klein, which explores the various surfing microcosms that exist within the Jewish and Arab populations of Israel and the Gaza Strip.  Filmed in April and May of 2008, Alex and his team travel throughout Israel and Gaza and meet unique locals whose affinity for surfing draw them together to the sea to share waves and escape the political realities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.  The film is currently scheduled for release in the summer of 2009.  Click below to view the trailer and to see additional teasers and other information about the film, go to www.godwentsurfing.com

Editor’s Note:  The Gaza Surf Club was featured on the ABC Nightly News on August 2, 2009.  Despite a few journalistic liberties (Gaza is not actually a “surfing paradise”) and a few corrections (Surfing for Peace, not “Surfers for Peace”), it is great to see continued mainstream coverage of our friends in Gaza.  Note that the story refers to the Gaza Surfing “Union” which is an alternate translation from Arabic of the word that also means “club”.  Featured in the story are Mohammed Abo Jayab, Ahmed Abu Hasiera, Asam A’ase, Taha Al Haik and Yousef Abo Ghanem.

التقى Explore Corps بفريق عمل فيلم God Went Surfing و Ultrawave Surfboards لصنع فديو يتكوّن من جزئين لتعليم كيفية تصليح لوّح التزلج بالغة العربية لمتزلجون غزة. صُمم هذا الفيديو لمساعدة تعليم المتزلجون بغزة و العالم العربى طرق تصليح لوح التزلج من خبير تزلج. عمر رابس, مزيع البرنامج, خبير عربى إسرائيلى فى Ultrawave Surfboards منذ اكثر من عشرين عاماً و نحن نقدر مساعدته كثيراً. يرغب عمر ايضاً أن يرسل افضل تحياته لأفراد اسرته الذين يعيشون فى غزة.
